CARA Chunky Platform Court Shoes

So I got some new shoes and I'm super excited because they are so gorgeous and I can actually walk in them fairly well.

They're fairly sturdy to walk in and feel like a wedge but yet they look like a heel, they were £19.99 on sale from Mr Shoes and they also sell them in a black leather. I'm always slipping out of shoes as I have quit small feet so the cute ankle strap helps to keep them on my feet. Can you tell I'm in love?

I even went OUTSIDE and took some pictures of them.

Apologies for the marks, they are a black suede velvet material and I'd been bedding them in  and my flash picked up the dust!

And finally a sneaky risque type picture for y'all.

Thank you for being patient with my lack of blog posts, I'll hopefully be able to write more soon xx

Outfit | Flamingos And Studs

I'm back! I don't really want to get into why I took a break but I may or may not explain in the future, all I can say is I'm sorry and without further ado I have an outfit post for you! :)

FLAMINGO DRESS - TK MAXX ON SALE FOR £11 // STUDDED DOLLIES - PRIMARK ON SALE FOR £4

This was the outfit I wore on Sunday night to see my cousin's dance show, it was very very hot and so I didn't wear any jewelry and kept clothes to a minimum. If you follow me on instagram you'd have probably already seen this outfit, sorry!

Affordable Retro Inspired Makeup: Lips

Please check out the other 2 posts Affordable Retro Inspired Makeup post for the Face and Eyes

I think this one is a bit obvious - red lipstick! But I feel if you have the face and eyes right, you can still have a retro look with a different colour on the lips. I love wearing nude/peach colours on days where red is too much hassle. In the winter time I think a dark red lip looks really nice too.

Matte Lipsticks
MAC have a wide range of Mattes and Rimmel have recently brought out a Matte range with Kate Moss
Matte is probably a great choice if you're going for a genuine look and it lasts long too! It's very drying so a lot of vaseline is needed when you're not wearing makeup however I personally love how it looks. My favourite is MAC's Russian Red, I also love Lady Danger and for a dark/red/purple I also use Diva.

Others
I'm sure almost every brand that produce lipstick do some form of red, I believe it is a pretty timeless colour, so just have a look around! As I mentioned before you can always use a different colour, I love peachy pinks and oranges like MAC's Meltdown and Rimmel do great corals like Coral in Gold and Nude Pink

Tips and tricks
Lip liner is great for lining the lips and also filling them in so the colour is bolder and the lipstick sticks more.
Lipcote - I personally recommend as it keeps red lipsticks from smudging for the most part!
Powder - is great if you don't own Lipcote, add a layer of lipstick, blot, add a little powder, another layer of lipstick etc.
Eating -  This sounds weird but I try and not wear red lipstick if I'm planning on going out for food or eating a lot, however if I just have a sandwich I will tear chunks off rather than take bites because it will smudge and you'll look like you've been drinking cherry-ade

Hope you enjoyed this "mini series"  if  you have any suggestions or tips please let me know in the comments!

Easy retro inspired summer makeup

If you've subscribed to me on YouTube (if not please do!) you may have seen my new video (if not, again, please do!).

I don't always have time for eyeliner in the mornings but I hate just wearing mascara as I always get people saying I look tired! So I thought I'd see if I could wear false lashes without the eyeliner, I got a lot of complements throughout the day and even though my makeup was quite basic and quick to do, I still felt like I'd made an effort!

Tag | #Beautyandthebeach2

This post was going to be my entry for Travel Supermarket’s Beauty and The Beach 2 competition however I couldn't get it up in time (boo for exams) However I still wanted to put it up because I thought it was a great idea. I was tagged by the lovely Danniella from Beuty In Japan (click here for her fab entry).

This looks is quite heavy for a holiday look, but I think you could probably wear it in the evening. With a sunny, sandy, beach holiday in mind I went for a bronzed/shimmery look.

Affordable Retro Inspired Makeup: Eyes

In all honesty, if you do a classic winged/flicked/cat-eye with liquid eyeliner, I think your makeup will have a retro edge to it no matter what, however as always there is room for a bit more glamour.

Affordable Retro Inspired Makeup: Face

I fully believe that "retro" inspired makeup (I'm talking 1940s and 1950s here) is flattering on everyone, with any face shape as it is quite versatile, you can wear quite plain for a day to day look or add small elements to make it a lot more glamorous. You can go all out traditional or add a modern twist. I also love it because it is a pretty simple look to achieve (it must be, if I can do it) but I find it looks timeless, classic and polished enough to trick people into thinking you made a lot of effort.

I wanted to do a series of  posts on how to achieve this look in an "affordable" way. I've included products that I use everyday and some that I've read reviews on that I think would go well with this look from my own experience.

Today I'm focusing on the face, click read more for more!

Affordable Retro Inspired Swimwear - George at ASDA

I've always been a big fan of George at ASDA and I always think they do really cute, often retro inspired clothing for very very reasonable prices. Seeing as it's summer and I've recently purchased a gorgeous swimsuit from my local ASDA, I thought I'd have a look on their website to see if they had anymore in their range and they did! Here are my favorites - I can't believe how cheap these items are.

Spotty // Animal // Tropical // Cherry - All £12

I own the cherry one on the far right and I absolutely love it. This style is perfect if, like me, you want to cover your tummy, and because they have hidden "body sculpt" they hide any lumps/bumps you may have. I love a good swimming costume because I think they're more practical and I love being in the water when I'm on holiday.

Purple Polka Top - £8 // Tropical Top £8 // Blue Polka Top - £4
All Bottoms £4

I also found these three beauties! I think ASDA have created a really flattering style here, I rather like how the polka dot ones would cover more "bum-age" haha. Perfect if you want to sun bathe, they'd also look really cute with a sarong!

I have made myself really "in the mood" for a tropical holiday now but unfortunately I've not got one planned! If you are going on holiday this year though have a great time and be sure to check out ASDA!

Tutorial | Dita Von Teese Inspired Look

So I made another video, its full of mistakes and I have hayfever! It was supposed to be a Dita Von Teese look, however I find her makeup so delicate and feminine and my heavy hands could just not pull that off - so I apologise.

Hope you enjoy! Please comment, like and subscribe for more! xx

I also took some shameless selfies of "the finished look"..

Spring Primark Haul

With all the warm weather over the May Bank Holiday weekend I really wanted to go shopping and get myself some new Spring/Summer clothes.

I wasn't planning on buying much from Primark - I am at the moment trying to stop my habit of buying a large quantity, and rather only buy quality that will last me. However I found a lot of stuff that was so "me" - So if you like my sort of thing, which from recent comments, a lot of you do, get down to Primark!

May Glossy Box - The 2nd Birthday Box | First Impressions

Firstly Happy 2nd Birthday Glossy Box, it doesn't seem five minutes since I was writing about the 1st Birthday Box! I am actually so excited about this months box, most of the items were full size and all stuff that I will use! Also the paper shredding matches my hair!

Outfit | Polka Dots & Anchors

So busy with revision at the moment! I actually went to school today, on a Sunday! That is how dedicated I am hahah. Here is my outfit. I can't believe that shirt is from Primark - it's such good quality and it was only £10.
SHIRT - PRIMARK // JEANS - NEW LOOK // SHOES - PRIMARK // LIPSTICK - RUSSIAN RED BY MAC
Please hype on Lookbook! Hope to be doing more interesting posts soon, but I hope you can appreciate that these exams are important, I'm more active on tumblr than blogger right now because Alt+Reblog requires less effort than writing a review on something xx

Monthly Favourites | April

MAC LIPSTICK IN LADY DANGER // RIMMEL LIPSTICK IN NUDE PINK // CLAW CLIPS - PRIMARK // NUTRITIVE VEGETAL FROM YVES ROCHER // BLOGGER.

MAC's Lady Danger - such a lovely summery red, I've been loving this lipstick almost as much as my beloved Russian Red

Rimmel's Nude Pink - I feautured this in "My Favourite Non-Redlipsticks" post and I really love the formular and the colour, I've also recently bought "Coral in Gold" which I'm loving too!

Primark Claw Clips - I couldn't find an exact picture of these but I have literally worn my hair in a "half-up, half down" style using these clips every single day. I have the leopard print ones and they're looking a bit worse for wear but when I went in to repurchase, as always Primark do not stock them anymore. I'm on the look out for more!

Yves Rocher Nutritive Vegetal - I receieved this in April's Glossy Box and I've been really enjoying it. It is for very dry skin, however and now the warmer weather has suddenly arrived out of nowhere I may have to go back to a more lighter moisturiser. However this one is so good, rubs in almost instantly and I love it.

Blogger - I kind of had a break from Blogger towards the end of last year as I sort of ran out of steam. However I have to say it has been a really positive distraction from life and I'm really enjoying "being back" without sounding cringey.

I made a cute little "frame" for my favourites to go into, I am going to attempt to do them every month. Do you like it?

Oufit | You're lucky, He's Lucky, I'm lucky, We're All Lucky.

On Saturday Night I went to see the The Rocky Horror Picture Show in the newly opened Ritz Cinema Lincoln. I dressed up as Magenta and this is what I wore. I was thinking of recording a tutorial for my youtube channel, on the makeup/hair I did, so please let me know if that is something you'd like to see.

BLACK SKATER DRESS - NEW LOOK // BLACK CORSET - AMAZON // WHITE MAID APRON (+HAT) - EBAY // LIPSTICK - RUSSIAN RED BY MAC OVER RIMMEL LIPLINER IN CAPPUCHINO // BLACK MOCK SUSPENDER TIGHTS - PRETTY POLLY //

As you may have noticed, I am trying to improve the way I do posts, so I'm trying out different styles etc. Please tell me if you prefer this sort of outfit post (e.g. a lookbook post) or how I used to do them.

So I made a Lookbook account just to see what all the fuss was about and also because I'm really "stuck in a rut" with what I'm wearing at the moment!

Outfit | All Hope Is Gone

Another outfit post, I hope you guys don't mind, I'm a bit busy at the moment with exams etc.  I have my first one tomorrow - German speaking! D:

My Sixth Form outfits have recently been the same sort of structure, tight-fitting skirt, band-t-shirt and a knitted cardigan.

It's finally cardigan weather again - woo! My sixth form actually do have a dress code but once I have the cardigan on, you can't see the shirt - I basically only have plain long sleeve shirts and it's too warm for those so I just throw on one of my many band t-shirts.

Outfit | 1980s Throwback

So recently I've not had much time to be drying and styling my hair so I've been plaiting it at night, semi-damp, and then waking up to these luscious waves which have made me feel really 80's!

Inspiration?

Today I have nothing really beauty related to talk about, revision makes me lose all my creativity and motivation for blogging which is so sad.

So I thought I'd just ask you what you'd like to see on here in the next few weeks?

Outfit | "The Queens of Cartoon" Series - #3 Wilma Flintstone!

Number 3 in the Series is another firey redhead - Wilma Flintstone! She is actually so classy because she cooks and cleans in a white dress! I grew up absolutely loving this show and so I thought I'd have to include her.

I couldn't find a nice one-shouldered dress so I just picked out this simple off the shoulder day dress. I think Wilma actually has stones around her neck but I always thought they were pearls. I know she doesn't wear shoes but I included this bright orange pair from Zara to match with the hair. And to complete the look, red lipstick!

Outfit | First Spring Outfit!

Seeing as I was stuck in work on the loveliest day (weather wise) of the year so far (Saturday), today has been my only chance to "dress for spring". Yes, I am still wearing a jumper - I live in England! But look - I even made an effort and used a daffodil as a prop!

P.S sorry for the webcam pictures - it's so much easier to take portrait-type pictures with it than it is using my camera.

Daffodil for the spring theme!

Wishlist | MAC Cosmetics.

I was going to do a Hayley Williams Collection post but seeing as they've already sold out of the two items I would have bought.. I'm very angry with them basically.

1. Studio Fix Fluid in NW10
I've been using MAC ProLong Wear foundation for the past year and really feel like a change, plus they released new, lighter shades woo!

2. Studio Fix Powder in NW10
Again, as I meantioned in my Collection 2000 Pressed Powder Review  I really want to try new things with my foundation routine. Also I thought a powder foundation might be better for summer?

3. Lipstick in Shade Sounds Like Noise (Hayley Williams)
This has sold out at the moment but I'm hoping that MAC will restock because I think this colour will go with my hair so amazingly and also Hayley Williams was my style goddess when I was younger.

4. Powder Blush in Harmony
I've started contouring and bronzing more recently so I really want to try MAC's famous "Harmony".

Hopefully going to treat myself to at least two of these items in the next coming weeks!

April Glossy Box | First Impressions

I haven't done a Glossy Box post in a while but I thought I'd do one this month because of the amazingly cute design on the box! This was also the first box that I used Glossy Dots for!

My Favourite (Non-Red) Lipsticks!

I think my favourite lip colour will always be red, it just makes me feel great and so empowered (lame that I need a lipstick to do that but true!). However I don't wear it everyday as it does dry my lips out and it is very high maintenance. So here are my top 3 lipsticks that I wear when I'm not wearing red.

Outfit | Denim Shirt and Loafers

I just literally through this outfit on and it ended up going pretty well. I'm going out for tea with my parents tonight and I only knew about this 20 minutes ago so I think I did pretty well.
Here is me trying to make myself look like I have  a figure! :L

I got this in Berlin for €10 on sale, I'm so into denim at the moment omg. The shirt is a tad too big for me as I think I converted the sizes wrong! Oh I'm also wearing tights from Primark and a black skirt from H&M - one of the basics ones which are around £4-£5 I think.

Berlin | Day 2 - Sachsenhausen, Holocaust Memorial and Philharmoniker

Warning: This post is very blunt to begin with, at first I wasn't going to include the pictures I took at Sachsenhausen, however I think it was quite a significant part of the trip.

What's in My Travel Bag?

I've just got back from Berlin, and I'm dying to do a post about it, but I thought I'd do the "What's in My Travel Bag" post that I was suppose to do on Monday night but ran out of time.

I've finally made a decent blog button (well I like it, what do you think?) so If you're interested in doing a button swap please  let me know by

  • leaving a comment below with a link to your blog and button.
  • tweeting me [@yentruocfarrow] with a link to your blog and button.

  • your blog is something that I think my readers will be interested in (which tbf if we follow each other it probably will be something that my readers will be interested in)
  • and can you please make sure your button is no larger than 200 wide because my side bar is quite small.
If you haven't got a button yet don't panic! There are plenty of tutorials if you search on Google or Youtube. I used GIMP for mine, if you were wondering.

Outfit | "The Queens of Cartoon" Series - #2 Jessica Rabbit

Obviously I was going to do a Jessica Rabbit outfit in this mini series! Can I just say that it really annoys me when people do Jessica Rabbit outfits/dress up and they include rabbit ears - She wasn't a rabbit, she just married Rodger Rabbit, and so that is her last name!

Anyway, moving on, I really wish I was Jessica, she is perfect. I mean she has red hair and can wear a red dress, purple eye shadow and still look phenomenal.

Outfit | "The Queens of Cartoon" Series - #1 Betty Boop!

When I'm on Polyvore, I prefer to do outfits based on a particular person - especially characters,  so I thought of the bright idea of starting a "mini-series" of my favourite female cartoon characters. This may (most probably) has been done before, but I thought it'd be fun to do.

I'm starting off the "mini-series" with Betty Boop. She was actually a symbol of the Depression era in America in the 1930's - A reminder for the people, of the 1920's, and as my coursework is based on this era I thought it'd be quite appropriate. I feel she's also one of the most celebrated and best known cartoon characters - so she's definitely a good place to start.

Although she has many different outfits, I based it on the black and white cartoon and stuck with a black and white theme - and modernised it a bit.

Why not join in? If you do, let me know and link me to your creations! Also, if you have any ideas on what I can create, comment below!

Updates | University, Summer & Festivals

I have had replies from all of the universities I applied for now and I’m proud to say I got conditionals of everyone - I actually feel like I’ve achieved quite a lot because of that. I just need to get these exams right, so I can actually go.
This past year has been hell for me, for many reasons. But I’m looking forward to after my exam (regardless if I do achieve the grades I need) because then I can actually spend time with my friends and family.
I also need to do the student finance thing, which I’ve been putting off!
Lizzy and I last year at Download - back when I thought straight, angular eyebrows were nice!
I'm lucky enough to be going to both Download Festival and Leeds, again this year - which gives me something to look forward to. Although feel a bit uncomfortable saying that at the moment, as I still need to pay my friend for one of the tickets. I shall be going with Lizzy, to Download for the three days, just before the end of my exams (I have 1 exam after that) and I am so excited as I get to see Slipknot, a band that I feel have got me through a lot (ha soppy!).

Mother and I at Leeds in 2011 - I think the rain washed off my makeup that day!
I am also going to Leeds for one day, the Saturday - which is also my 18th birthday! I have seen Green Day before, when I was about 13 and they were the first band I saw with my best friend, Lizzy so I feel that day will be pretty special. Also, System Of A Down are playing which should be amazing. I am a bit disappointed with a few things about Leeds this year, but I'll save that, maybe for another post. I am also spending that weekend camping with my parents and Lizzy which should be fun!

xx
